wave swept them in the ocean. officials want to educate dog owners on hazards including what to do if their pets get swept to sea and how to swim out of a rip current. >> in sonoma, health officials are investigating the first confirmed rabid cat case in the county in 16 years. the domestic cat bit someone in glenn ellen and that person received a rabies shot. officials say the incident the boat. two children and two adults were on board. abc7 news reporter lilian kim is live at sfo with late details. >> search crews based at sfo are outlooking for the boat. sky 7 is off the coast in the same area where a helicopter, plane and suferl cutters on focused. two adults and two children are believed to be on board. someone radioed for help indicating the vessel was taking on water, and they were abandoning ship. the boat was believed to be about 50 miles southwest of santa cruz. the surf conditions were said to be relatively calm today, so it is unclear as to how the sailboat got at the hillsboro police department with a story you will see only on 7:00. you have been following this case for years. >> i have indeed. this person of interest is 8,000 miles away from here. we have known about this development for a longtime. but abc7 news decided to hold this story at the request of hillsboro police for fear of jeprodizing their investigation. now with this development we can break this story without fear of compromising the probe. november 9th, 2007, the e-mail came out of no where. we changed the sender's name to protect his safety. dick found my stories about the high-profile murder on the internet. it happened in june of 2004. pricilla ing was murdered in her home. police said two asian men broke into the house in the middle of the night. >> we are lacking specific identity information of the suspects involved. >> the killers tied up ing and her houseguest. she died of asphyxiation. her guest was seriously injured, but survived. it was not a random murder. >> she is a very generous person. >> the real for was well known in the chinese community. a bitter legal battle with her divorced husband over their murder. her murder.e day it was father's day and steven ing had taken their 13-year-old daughter to his hillsboro home for the weekend. when reporters asked if he was a suspect, police said no. >> at this time steven ing is not considered a suspect in this case. >> a year passed and pricilla's daughter, doris, from a previous marriage, announced a million dollar reward. >> i pray that the people responsible for this will be found. >> in his e-mails to us, dick said he wanted the reward.e he said the killerring live in singapore and he knew details of what happened that night. he wanted abc news to introduce him to the police investigators. since then hillsboro police captain doug davis says they have had extensive contact with him over the years. >> and they have been very candid and he was very forward with information. >> meantime, dick kept in touch with me through several dozen e-mails. he wrote about his frustrations about the slow progress of the probe. a big obstacle was one of the suspects was arrested for a murder in singapore. >> singapore was investigating their own homicide and going through the process of the homicide related to this person. naturally for their purposes that takes precedence over anything else. >> that prevented his investigators from going to singapore to interview the suspect. >> they have adjudicated the case and this person sentenced and it now provides us a new opportunity to look into some of the leads that we may get from talking to this person. >> davis says that over the years police have received a lot of leads from people wanting the million dollar reward. >> what made this lead unique is that the information provided to you we consider credible. >> now with this new development hillsboro police tell us they are ruling no one out either as a of carjacking a mercedes and leading police in a chief that lead to a series of collisions in a shopping mall. laura anthony is live in union city with new details. laura? >> reporter: this happened in the parking lot and a chain reaction collision this afternoon and six cars in all were damaged. police were saying a juvenile was driving a stolen car that started this whole thing. she and an 18-year-old companion are in jail. >> we were told that the vehicle, the benz was stolen. >> reporter: they came out of the movie theater to find the green honda and five other cars seriously damaged in the parking lot of the union landing shopping mall. >> we are just waiting for the tow trucks to separate the car so we could leave, but because it is a crime scene they are taking their time. ter: what they missed ter: what he theater was the frightening and demanding ending to a chase they say began with a carjacking in fremont. >> once the carjacking took place we had a description of the victim's vehicle and one of our officers did pick up the victim vehicle that was driven by the suspect which lead to this shopping center. >> reporter: when the chase reached the union landing parking lot, the stolen vehicle first jumped a curb, wiped out a tree and hit two cars and then jumped another curb before plowing into several more cars that had been parked in a row. okay? yourokay? >> it >> the plan seemed like an instant success. the group was able to secure recyclers willing to buy the materials defraying much of the cost with one exception, plastic bags. >> they do not want plastic bags. there isn't a recycling capability. there isn't an industry in india to handle that at this point. >> and the bags make up a large percentage of the garbage. but then came his second inspiration. >> i twist the one strand. >> to turn the plastic bags into the commercially usable rope by weaving them together. >> and it creates a rope. they are real rope that can be used for ig in. happen last week but poet pointed because the defense needed more time and now scheduled for today. also today is the victim's funeral. a public funeral will be held today if janell conway allen at the benicia cemetery. the body was found three weeks ago in the park. she was last seen getting off the school bus. police have not said what they think the motive was. they do believe anthony lamar jones killed her. he is also accused of kidnap willing, lewd acts on a child, and rape and he could get the death penalty if convicted but the prosecution have not said if they will seek the death penalty. his wife has described him as a violent man saying she was afraid of him. she got a restraining order against him a few days before she disappeared. she described hip as violent and stubbed and was fearing for her life. he is due in court at 8:30 this morning and is held in jail without bail. >> new this morning when south africa, a stunning twist in the murder case facing "blade runner" oscar pistorius with the lead investigator facing his own legal trouble, attempted murder. oscar pistorius is losing a key sponsor here in the united states. abc7 news reporter is tracking all the developments from the newsroom. >> oscar pistorius will spend another night in jail. the prosecution is now starting their closing arguments in the bail hearing and a reporter inside the south africa court says the judge will not make a decision today. if it is any indication how he is leaning the judge has been asking questions this morning about oscar pistorius prior violent behavior including firing a gun in a restaurant. the defense maintained he is not a flight risk. the lead investigator for the prosecution being charged with seven counts of attempted murder is a blow to the credibility of the premeditated murder case. he is facing those charges and is accused of shooting at a minivan in 2011 and his court appearance is scheduled for may. the prosecution is saying they didn't know about it. on "good morning america", they are saying his creditability is key because he is testify about the ballistics. >> it is important as to premeditation, were the bullets coming from above and he could be wearing his legs or below which means his story which he wasn't wearing them. all very important questions because premeditation is crucial with regard to this bail. >> if the judge believes premeditation it will be very hard for oscar pistorius to get bail. the defense says there is no proof of murder and attorneys say if oscar pistorius wanted to kill reeva steenkamp he could is done it in the bedroom and after the shooting he carried her down stairs desperate to save her. also, an announcement about sponsorship, my key is suspending the contract saying "oscar pistorius should be afforded due process." police in the north bay believe two other people connected to a triple homicide in sonoma county are still lose, two men that are associated of the man in custody released a photo of this truck they believe could be linked to the killings. >> berkeley police looking for three women who attacked two other women near the cal campus on friday night near prospect street. the two female victims were walking down the street and three other women tried to problem them. the victims tried to run appear but the attackers grabbed a victim, punched her in the face, and knocked her to the backgrounds and used upper spray and a male passerby and the attackers ran off. the victims are okay and anyone with information is asked to call the berkeley police. in san francisco a rally is planned at city college of san francisco and members of the save city college of san francisco coalition want the board of trustees to reverse cuts to class and services, staff and faculty saying the board refused to include them in discussions on the accreditation and budget crisis that the school has been undergoing since last few. >> also in san francisco today a board supervisors committee is set to consider two gun control measures proposed by the mayor and supervisor. the "san francisco chronicle" reports that a measure would require ammunition dealers to contact [ laughter ] the inside of my stomach is going to look like a michelle obama nightmare. guillermo, where are you watching the super bowl? what's your plan? usually we watch together, but i have my pilates class on sunday. >> yeah. i think i'll watch it at home. >> jimmy: your going to watch it at home? you think? have other people invited you over? >> yeah. >> jimmy: who has invited you other? >> a couple of co-workers. >> jimmy: some of your co-workers? >> i'm going to watch it at home. yeah, because -- >> jimmy: i see. gotcha. it's a good idea. [ laughter ] that was all i saw. >> jimmy: it's okay. >> i was like standing there with these doctors and they're looking at my lungs, it felt like an elephant in the room. i was like are my breasts uneven. and they were just kind of like stifled and uncomfortable, obviously. so i kept thinking well, i'm going to dig myself out of this hole by bringing it up again. he was like well, our radiologist will get back to you about your lungs. and i was like and my breasts. he was like bye. >> jimmy: but are you worried about that? is that a concern? >> it wasn't until the x-ray. i think i just hope no one will ever see my breasts in an x-ray. i hope i'm never seen in that light. >> jimmy: in the x-ray light. you've had an unbelievable couple of years, but this last month has been particularly unbelievable with the golden globe. congratulations on that. >> thank you. [ cheers and applause ] thank you. >> jimmy: and that's a fun event to go to. everybody drinks at that thing. you get to sit at a table with famous people. >> famous people are everywhere. >> jimmy: who were you sitting with at the table? >> i was sitting with my family and bradley and david. everybody but -- adele was in the table -- it was the next table over. and i had such a high fever and i felt like i couldn't move and i saw adele and there was nobody in the way and she was sitting in the table by herself. my dad was sitting next to me here. and i just reached my arm out and went -- my dad goes, jen, what's the matter? i was like, it's adele. adele right there. >> jimmy: you had no quality time with adele at all? adele was probably happy at that point that you weren't talking to her. >> come over with 103 -- >> jimmy: fever hands. i wonder how many people you infected at the golden globes. >> i wonder how many people were infecting me. >> jimmy: wouldn't you love to know who it was? i think about this all the time. remember they used to tell you when you're a kid that if you pee in the pool, it would turn red. >> they should do that. >> jimmy: i think it might be better not to know. because -- >> then you'd be in fights with a lot of people. >> jimmy: exactly. you'd be fighting with people all the time. >> a totally plausible reason to be mad at somebody. you gave me walking pneumonia. you're in big trouble. >> jimmy: are there any suspects? >> well, the hollywood foreign press. i've been shaking a lot of those hands. >> jimmy: no offense, guillermo. your mom is here. is she here in the audience? >> my mom is here in the audience. >> jimmy: where is your mom? that's your mom right there. [ laughter ] [ applause ] she gone and done it. >> jimmy: are you parents coming to the oscars with you? >> oh, of course. >> jimmy: that's a given? >> that's a given. >> jimmy: did you get them tickets yet? >> well, i've never really had a problem getting tickets for my family, which is weird, because i think that's a big struggle. normally you only get plus-one, but i think they're in the mafia or something. i've never had a problem getting my family tickets. >> jimmy: somehow you've managed? >> there's something going on. >> jimmy: naomi watts was here and she was saying she was having problems getting her family tickets to the oscars. but i think people are lying and making it like it's very difficult to get their family tickets. >> oh, okay. >> jimmy: because clearly you can easily get your family tickets. >> it's so easy. >> jimmy: do your parents embarrass you? i think i remember seeing you cry on like "access hollywood" or something like that. were you weeping on "access hollywood"? >> she was stepping on my foot. "katie" airs weekdays in syndication. please say hello to katie couric. >> jimmy: how are you? >> your new studio -- >> jimmy: our new studio. >> your new time slot. congratulations on everything. >> jimmy: congratulations to you. i know you got picked up for a second season of your show. >> i did. >> jimmy: are you happy about that? >> i am, i am. i'm happy about it. >> jimmy: you came to our studio when we were in brooklyn and interviewed me. that seems like a lot of work what you do. >> well, it's a lot of work what you do. >> jimmy: yeah, but it's more work what you do. it's more. >> you know, i have to say it's the hardest job i've had. i've been working in television for 34 years now. [ applause ] by the way, having me follow jennifer lawrence, that is cold. that is cold. she is so cute, isn't she? >> jimmy: she really is. she's a lot of fun. but let's not -- you're pretty cute yourself. >> oh, jimmy. [ applause ] >> jimmy: you had the big interview. you got the big one, manti te'o. everybody wanted him. how did you talk him into talking with you? >> well, basically, he apparently -- his parents apparently had watched me. likely the fellow who was helping him with crisis management issues also helps me. but i wasn't in a crisis. he just sort of helps me in general. and i think that they wanted a place where he could -- the story, you know, is so ridiculously complicated. >> jimmy: and ridiculous. >> so many twists and turns that actually i think you really needed a longer format to get through everything that happened to this guy. >> jimmy: many times in the interview, you're asking why he did something and he really didn't seem to notice. i don't know what i was thinking. >> you know, i think he got sucked into this relationship and i think he sort of stayed with it. i think the narrative that emerged from it was very flattering to him, that he sort of played through these double tragedies, losing his girlfriend and grandmother on the same day. and i think this was a very religious guy who focused on football, graduated from notre dame in three and a half years, and probably, to be honest with you, having a phone girlfriend, whatever this person was on the other end of the phone, was probably easier for him than having a real girlfriend. do you ever feel that way, jimmy? >> jimmy: i wouldn't know. i didn't have a real girlfriend for a very long time. >> you had an imaginary girlfriend. >> jimmy: it occurred to me, i have some friends who are very bright who didn't even get into notre dame. this numb skull somehow graduated in three and a half years. he doesn't know what the difference between a man and a woman are online. >> you know what, we listened to the voicemails. we played them on the show. and honestly, it sounded like a young woman to me. and now they're saying this ronaiah tuiasosopo -- i had to work very hard to learn how to say that. that it was actually his voice that had been somehow altered. >> jimmy: not according to dr. phil. and i don't believe that either. >> he said it was actually a girl's voice? >> jimmy: dr. phil called in the police to investigate it. and apparently there is like a one in ten billion chance that it's actually his voice. it didn't sound anything like him. >> right. >> jimmy: now that's another great interview. did you try get an interview with tuiasosopo? >> yes, i did try to get an interview, but apparently he wanted to be on a different -- he wanted a different venue than manti. >> jimmy: why would he want to be on with dr. phil instead of you? >> i don't know. >> jimmy: do you think dr. phil paid him? >> i don't know, possibly. >> jimmy: is it possible? >> i don't know. >> jimmy: wouldn't that be something if this somehow got paid for doing this to this football player? >> you know, stranger things have happened. i have no idea if he was paid. we don't pay our guests. but i have no idea. >> jimmy: well, i was paid almost a million dollars to be on your show. you weren't aware of that? >> not by us, jimmy. you know, you need pillows on these chairs because they're very deep. and if you're not a tall person, you end up -- my feet don't even touch the ground. >> jimmy: we do it to humiliate the guests. >> well-played. >> jimmy: i'm sorry, wle have that fixed for the next time you are here. i want to ask about this process. i know michael jackson is somebody that you wanted to interview. >> i did, i did. >> jimmy: you never got a chance to interview him. >> no, i had an opportunity to meet him. oftentimes when you're trying to score these big interviews, you usually meet somebody before you interview them because you want them to feel comfortable, you want to talk to them, tell them why you're interested in doing it. so i went to the four seasons, which are there are a million security guards, he had taken over like four levels of the four seasons. i met him, we sat and talked for probably about 15 minutes. he told me he was working on a screen play about edgar alan poe, which i thought was interesting. he was going to play edgar alan poe. we said goodbye. i was hoping that was a positive meeting and he would talk to me. the next morning after i was done with the "today" show, i get this phone call. he was working with a guy called rabbi schmooley. >> jimmy: yeah, he's a real attention whore. >> he called me and he said katie, i have a question for you. are you seeing anyone? i said at the time -- it was a couple years after my husband had passed away and i was dating someone. i was like yes, but that's kind of disgusting, aren't you married with a lot of kids? he goes no, not for me. michael is interested in going out with you. and i was like, wow. and then i thought that would be -- can you imagine going home to my daughters who were then about like 8 and 4 saying honey, i'm going on -- girls, i'm going on a date with michael jackson. so i thought it would just be too weird. >> jimmy: yes. >> and the tabloids would go crazy. i didn't need that. >> jimmy: it would be very, very weird. he probably would have fed you to his giraffes or something. >> now i'm just really sorry i didn't have dinner with him because it would have been a fascinating conversation. >> jimmy: just to see him lift that mask up and see what's going on under there. >> i didn't think it was worth it. when i met him, he had this very thin piece of tape down his nose and across his nose. i think it might have been during a time where he was having trouble with sort of his nose collapsing or something. >> jimmy: yeah, well we've all been there. [ laughter ] you know, larry king was here, and he said he went on a date with you. many years ago. i cannot believe that that -- i refuse to believe that that is true. is that true? >> his recollection is very different, jimmy. >> jimmy: what is your recollection of this horrible, horrible event? >> so, i was about 30 years old and i was going through this period of my life where i was going i'm going to go out with anybody who asks me because you learn something every time you go out with a new person. you learn something and it's something new. so i met larry at this restaurant in washington. and what can i say, jimmy? i was wearing a leather skirt. and so he called me and he asked me out to dinner. i thought well that will be really interesting. >> jimmy: katie, you're on the air. >> so he picks me up at my apartment. i lived in washington. picked me up. i came downstairs and he had a lincoln town car. he was driving the lincoln town car. i get in, he puts the tape deck and it's jack jones. ♪ i am a singer and we're driving. we go to k street to this italian restaurant. they put us right next to each other like they do to all the men and their nieces. so we're sitting there eating. and he ordered veal poached in chicken stock because he had had just had quadruple bypass, which was hot. so we're having a nice enough time and we're driving home. we're going over memorial bridge and that's not the way back to my apartment. i go larry, where are we going? he goes my place. [ laughter ] and i was like oh mother of god. oh, god. and i'm like dear cosmo, what do i do? i was only 30. i just could not figure out how to extricate myself from it. so we go to his apartment. we walk in, it's covered with proclamation larry king day, keys to every city in the country. that was sexy. >> jimmy: you have to be careful because you could have been like his 13th wife. >> i know, darn. so we sat there and, what can i say, he lunged. >> jimmy: incredible. >> i love larry, by the way. i do love him. >> jimmy: of course, who wouldn't want to have sex with larry? >> i started laughing because the whole situation was like out of a bad lifetime movie. so i said larry, you're such an interesting, nice man, but i would like to meet someone a little closer to my age. and it was like wah-wah. >> jimmy: someone from the paleolithic era. >> he said that's okay, because when i like, i really like. >> jimmy: wow. that is fantastic. >> larry has no memory of any of this. he tells the story that we were going to go upstairs. i had a roommate. i didn't have a roommate. it was the old roommate excuse. >> jimmy: it's terrific to see you. congratulations on all the success of the show.
